National Lung Cancer Screening Program
I wish to provide you with an update to the Federal Government Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP).
The Australian government has launched a new National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLSCP) to find lung cancer early in high-risk individuals through low-dose CT scans. The “Lung Cancer Screening Saves Lives” promotional campaign aims to raise awareness of this program for eligible Australians aged 50–70 years who currently smoke or have quit in the last 10 years and have a history of at least 30 pack-years.
The campaign includes television and radio advertising, social media video promotions and a communications tool-kit to target specific groups such as CALD and Indigenous peoples.
Key features of the program
- Screening method: Low-dose computed tomography (CT) scans.
- Eligibility:
- Aged between 50 and 70 years.
- Current smokers or those who have quit within the last 10 years.
- History of smoking of at least 30 pack-years.
- Asymptomatic (showing no signs or symptoms of lung cancer).
- Screening frequency: Eligible individuals can be screened every two years.
- How to participate: Consult a healthcare provider to check eligibility and be referred for a scan.
Further details regarding the Program may be found on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website: https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/nlcsp/how-it-works
I am actively involved in the Program and can assist you and your patients. I am a member of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) that determines further investigations and any proposed treatment for individual patients referred to our MDT.
Patients who need a ‘respiratory review’ for suspected lung cancer can also be referred directly to me as a link to an MDT Team.
For further enquiries about the NLCSP, as well as my practice and services, please get in touch with me directly on mobile 0415 384 695 or email me at [email protected]
I have an excellent brochure to help inform your patients about the NLCSP. Please email me if you would like some brochures to be sent to your practice.
I’m also available to deliver short presentations to your clinic or medical group on any surgical-related topic. Please get in touch with me directly to arrange.
Also, note my new address at HealthLink EDI: lsanders. Medical records and communication can be safely transferred through this medium.
Finally, I wish you all the very best for the new year.
